Serious Play: 5th Grader Presents M.I.T.'s Scratch Programming Language

Presented at the ISTE 2011 Conference in Philadelphia on Monday, June 27, 8:30-9:30 as a BYOL (Bring Yer Own Laptop) session at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, room PACC 118A. "Serious Play: 5th Grader Presents M.I.T.'s Scratch Programming Language"

Hey folks, if you want to get started, download scratch from M.I.T. and create an account: http://scratch.mit.edu/download You should also install Java on your machine if you haven't already: http://www.java.com/en/ Java allows you to run scratch project right in your browser.

But don't do anything else! This BYOL session is for BEGINNERS ONLY. Like me. If you start getting into it you'll be ahead of me, and then my 5th grader will have to explain your questions to me. The install takes -- I kid you not -- 60 seconds or less. Then "friend" me and my son on scratch. I'm alexpearson60 and he is "masterofmonkeys".

And remember: no skipping ahead of the teacher! We all have to discover this together. If I catch anyone skipping ahead then they are just going to have to come down and teach the class themselves.

ISTE asks that you please evaluate this BYOL session at http://www.surveymk.com/s/M5ZV9JP. For those who have downloaded the conference mobile app to their iPhone, iPad, or Android devices, they can fill out an evaluation by searching for this session, selecting the survey tab, and clicking on the “check responses that best describe your evaluation …” link.
